Merge Templates Broken after Windows Update

Merge Templates Broken after Windows Update

It is possible for a Windows Update to break the Mail Merge feature in MS Word.

Problem:  After updating Windows XP, your Merge Templates do not work. You get these error messages:

"Word cannot start the converter mswrd632.wpc"
and
"Unable to open the Specified Merge Form File"

Solution:

This issue is not a Time Matters issue, but a Microsoft Word issue. You would have this problem trying to use the Word Mail Merge feature all by itself.

You may be able to fix it with a Registry patch file. Please contact us for the file.

But first, back up your hard drive and backup your Windows Registry.

Here is one way to backup the Registry, per Microsoft - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756

Manual steps to back up the registry in in Windows XP:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, and then click OK.
  2. On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Create a restore point, and then click Next .
  3. On the Create a Restore Point page, type a name for the restore point and then click Create
  4. After the restore point has been created, click Close.

Then just double-click on the attached file after downloading it to your desktop or a folder.
