RECOMMENDATION: Upgrade to Time Matters 10.0
For the large majority of Time Matters users, I recommend upgrading to Version 10. In my opinion, Version 10 is ready for business use. I believe it is the most stable release yet and has higher quality than other supported versions.
Time Matters 10, even before its first Service Pack, has significantly fewer annoyances and issues than Version 9 while adding important new features:
-- Desktop Extensions for quickly and easily accessing and entering information
-- Automatic backup scheduling with new options
I also recommend that most firms upgrade to Windows 7. That means waiting for Service Pack 1 if you create bills with Billing Matters. Creating PDF files within TM10 does not yet work on Windows 7. That is important for retaining PDF copies of invoices you create with Billing Matters. We are confident that will be fixed with release Service Pack 1 expected sometime around December 1, 2009.
Please read the Planning section in my guide, Conversion to Version 10, to inform your decision about upgrading to Version 10 and about Windows 7, new computers, and efficiency. It contain detailed recommendations and information about hardware and software. If you do not already have the guide, it is available for purchase from our website, http://www.activepractice.com/guides
Buying new computers is generally the most cost-effective way to upgrade to Windows 7. You do not need to upgrade all your computers to Windows 7, or any of them, to run Version 10. But the sooner you get started, the sooner you get the returns in the form of greater time savings, stability and security.
Getting used to anything new always involves some level of anxiety and discomfort. You may not like aspects of doing things the old ways, but at least they are familiar. The fit and timing of upgrading to Time Matters 10.0 and Windows 7 will not be the same for everyone. My guide is designed to assist you in making a smooth transition. Your LexisNexis CIC can help you with your decisions and process. If you don't have one, please give me a call.
I firmly believe the time and money invested in these new technologies will be more than repaid promptly for the large majority of upgraders.
