Recommendations and Observations
Security
The Time Matters Security featured was not activated, so all users have had the ability to add, change and delete records. I recommend that Security be activated.
Time Matters 6 has a Security Profiles feature. I recommend that two profiles be created: one for regular users and another for administrators. The regular user profile prevents against unintentional damage to the database by restricted certain functions reserved for administrators. The administrator profile allows full access to all features.
Most law firms give Time Matters access to both paralegals and attorneys. Paralegals do most of the record entry and updating. Attorneys use the program as a resource for checking on the status of cases, looking up client information, and performing various tasks without needed to refer to the physical case files.
The fact that the firm has been operating without Security activated may suggest that there is no real need to prevent attorneys from having regular access to the database.
